I would like to try making my own air dry clay along the lines of the brands La Doll and Creative Paperclay. This is both to try and reduce costs as well as play with properties. I can find lots of recipes for "cold porcelain" and CERAMIC paperclays, but not the NON-fired, air-dry clays. Most of these seem to be made by Japanese companies and shipped to US, and compared to fired clays, are very expensive.

I know the basic ingredients are:

starch (not sure what they use)
pumice (volcanic ash)
talc
wood/paper pulp (not sure how prepared)
“binders”(which I assume like in cold porcelain is some sort of glue)

However, I don’t know the relative amounts to mix, or how to mix, temperature, order, how to work to appropriate consistency, etc. Of course, I can experiment, but it would be great to have a real protocol for this to at least begin in the ballpark and not waste time, money, or incur health risks!
